Race report (only for tri nerds πŸ˜‰). IM703WC in SA. 2 w ago today! πŸ˜ƒ

Run: Started the run with a good feeling but heavy round the hips πŸ˜‚. Note to self to drop those gels on the race belt πŸ™ˆ. I can’t manage race belts with fluid on, they don’t fit on my body somehow. Why do I keep trying on raceday??! πŸ˜† So the first kms reorganizing gels from belt to waistband and bra. The straights felt good, the 4 inclines were a pain. Incline 1 and 3 were shorter and 5-6 degrees. Incline 2 and 4 were just looong πŸ˜…. Oh forgot, on the bike I managed to hold cramps off!! πŸ˜ƒ Into the run the first cramp was in my left hamstring and in the last 5 k it got hold of my right foot and toes but I just continued forward. I also had a stitch on my left side at about 14 k so skipped gels and drank water. Pushed forward and it loosened. Endurance races are interesting, they go up and down and one just needs to endure the downs for a while and 90% of the time there is an up around the corner. It is a mental test most of the time πŸ˜…. The last 2-3 k I started coughing as I drank and my breathing was pretty heavy. I adjusted my cap the last 300 m and ran with such a smile, so happy to start, endure and finish this world championship race. I finished 7th in my AG. I truly did my best that day! Later that evening I started coughing more and more and I am still coughing two weeks later, just as my son is. I know how fortunate πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™β€οΈ I am to have been able to do this race and greatful for my early decisions to let my body get the chance to do it. There was a semi meaning to my bike being lost a few days and no longer bike sessions race week. I don’t have to say that I with gratitude accepted being sick πŸ€’ after the race on the way to and in Cape Town and have enjoyed every minute. #im703wcnelsonmandelabay #im703wc #triathlon #swimbikerun #racetime #racewithasmile #run
